Briland Laycock, HHS forward and rising senior,  was honored this week by the Valley News as Hanover High School female athlete of the year.  18 female and 18 male athletes were selected from their regional high schools for the VN honor.  Laycock was cited for signature moments this year including first team all state honors, 37 goals, 22 assists, and as season regional points leader with 59 points.  Also noted was a 1 goal, 1 assist state championship game resulting in a 3-1 win against Exeter at SNHU Arena.  At a well attended VN Athletes of the Year awards dinner at the Fireside this Tuesday,  VN sports editor Greg Fennell applauded this year’s  HHS Marauder 8th straight state championship, an honor earned by the many strong returning players and many new team additions.  Laycock also was part of the D1 state championship finalist tennis team, winning all matches at number 4 singles.

Past Marauder winners of the VN award include Matti Hartman (2016), and JJ Daniel (2015).

Bri Laycock listens to Greg Fennell’s remarks at the awards dinner at the Fireside Inn on June 20.  These two met in 2012 when Fennell made the trip to Washington, D.C. for  USA Hockey Tier 2 Nationals. The HHS male athlete of the year, Jake Acker, also played on that Hanover Wild pee wee team.
