‘Twas the Night Before the Championship….
‘Twas the night before the Championship,
when all through the rink,
Not a player was stirring…..not even Courtney or Josie.
36 skates sharpened with the greatest of care,
In hopes that a seventh consecutive title soon would be there.
The team bonded together, nestled snug on the ice,
with visions of future goals and plays, all very nice;
Coach Dodds in his jacket, and Coach Drew his vest,
recounted “the story”, to inspire in us our best.
We’ve had a season of 23 games,
tomorrow’s last with Berlin,
Barnstable, Plymouth, and Conval to begin.
With a strong start and hard work,
we did see
ways of success, paths to victory.
So tonight on the Eve of the Championship Game,
there’s story to tell, a story of our aim—
To Honor Tradition, Leave No Doubt, We Are Tough!
Better Tomorrow Than Today– No Pulp……
Now BRIGHAM, now SCULL, now SPERRY, and BARTON!
On WILLIAMS! On HARTMAN! On LAYCOCK! MONTGOMERY!
To the Top! On WAGNER , on KABLE and TAUBE! GARDNER,
LYONS, MYERROSE, MACCORMICK, MCNAMARA and CURTIS, and…. Certainly…. STURUP!
After coach’s story, and the last drills were done,
The seniors exclaimed, “It’s time for some fun!”
So the team lined up,
Along the far side,
And created the –last- practice tunnel,
Through which feted seniors would slide.
Matti the Huskie,
With her powerful stride,
Made some fast moves
While finishing her slide.
Eliza was eager
to step up and rage
So she sprinted with vigor
And got caught up in the tunnel-cage.
Kelly was ready,
With her super quick feet.
that camel proudly entered,
Sliding down the tunneled sheet.
Julie went in,
There were whoops and a scream
That senior’s glide and smile
Made the whole team beam!
Ella was last,
With her heart so keen,
She fought to hold on to the moment,
But there’s no holding back now,
Our seniors worked hard ,
And made sure it was fun.
They’ve honored tradition,
Our team tunnel is now done.
And now, all, hear this team’s hallowed stick banging cheer,
the growing rhythm— mounting and steady,
Good Luck, Marauders!
Onward!…. To the ‘Ship….You are ready!
