3-peat!!! Marauders Capture 3rd Consecutive NHIAA Girls’ D1 Ice Hockey Championship
The Marauders closed out their 2011-12 campaign with a suffocating performance in the championship game against Lebanon at Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday morning. From the first faceoff, Hanover controlled a game that seemed never in doubt. Shots on goal were 11-1 after one (1-0 lead) and finished 31-11. Although the Black Line dominated the offensive production on the scoresheet (Madison Hill hat trick and 2 assists; Maddie Dewhirst 2 goals and 3 assists; Tessa Hill 5 assists), all three lines created both pressure and attrition for Lebanon’s short (playing) bench, especially challenged by the larger ice surface at Verizon. A stifling backcheck and layered defense all but neutralized Lebanon’s offense, allowing only a single goal in the third period. Kelly Gaudet (10 saves) earned the complete game, and her first NHIAA championship win in goal.
With the win, the Marauders convincingly avenged (both times in the playoffs… and taking 2 of 3 season games from each of those teams) the second of their only two regular season losses in NHIAA play…claiming their third consecutive (and fourth in five years of NHIAA sanctioned girls’ ice hockey) championship.
Congratulations to our girls on another hard-earned and well-deserved state title!
