Marauder Girls Win 2nd Straight NHIAA Girls’ Ice Hockey Championship
With a convincing victory over Oyster River this morning at the Verizon
Wireless Arena in Manchester, the HHS Marauder Girls finished their NHIAA season with a perfect 18-0-0 record and repeated as Champions in NHIAA D1 Girls’ Ice Hockey.
After a bit of a nervous start, giving up a short-handed goal and then tying it at one each in the first, our girls got going in the second period. The Bobcats exposed their defensive zone with their aggressive offense, and Hanover capitalized with four more unanswered strikes to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Never giving up however, Oyster River kept it interesting for a while, netting two of their own, but could never get closer than two away, and ultimately succumbed by the 7-4 final score.
All three lines and the defense earned scores for the Marauders, while the team defense and goaltending for the most part stifled the Bobcat attack, even succeeding at denying a goal during four continuous minutes of penalty kill, which included a full minute of 5 on 3, to begin the third period.
With the 2011 Championship, Hanover has captured three of the four titles since girls’ ice hockey was sanctioned by the NHIAA in ’07-08.
Congratulations on another memorable season!
