Tuesday 5:30 PM  v. Essex, VT
2-0 win.   The Marauder girls returned to St. Albans to defend their 2009 Comet Christi Corrigan Blitz tournament title with a shorter than usual bench this holiday season.  No matter. Goals by Maddie Dewhirst and Madison Hill created all the offense necessary, while the defense (Hannah Lyons, Lauren Hoh, Caroline Howell and Katrina Menard) shut down the Hornets’ attack.  Goaltenders Kelly Gaudet and Emily Eickhoff shared the shutout victory.  (In the second game, BFA blanked the Oswego, NY Buccaneers by a 5-0 score.)
Wednesday 3:00 PM  v. BFA St. Albans
6-4 win.  Despite early offensive dominance by the Marauders, BFA scored first in this third meeting between the two teams this season. (Two early scrimmages with the defending VT girls’ champions resulted in draws.)   However, continued pressure in the second yielded the equalizer by Kate Pattison, showing patience with a rebound in front of  the Comet goal.  All three lines (comprising 8 forwards) played with intensity, generating multiple scoring chances.  Tessa Hill tallied the next two goals, but each time the Comets answered quickly, to remain within striking distance.   Maddie Dewhirst followed assists on each of the first three goals with a hat trick, scoring the final three (one shorthanded) to help the Marauders overpower the host Comets in the title game.  Again, Kelly and Emily split the goaltending duties.

(Oswego rebounded with a convincing 4-1 defeat of Essex in game 3, for third and fourth places in the tournament, respectively.)

With two wins in as many days, Hanover captured its second consecutive Christie Corrigan Tourney championship.  They will have a well-earned, holiday break until their next game at Spaulding high school (Barre, VT) on Jan. 5th.
