Final Weekend of the Regular Season
Our regular season was completed without incident yesterday and the Marauders now set a post-season course toward the Verizon… which as usual, passes through Concord. But no more fooling around…. Despite a laudable 10-0-2 run since the January 5th loss, the final three games were against the league’s non-playoff teams. So next week’s task at hand is to scrape off the rust, regaining the foot speed, sharp passing and defensive positioning that the Marauder girls cultivated to compete at their highest level.
In two other games on Saturday, Lebanon suffered a 1-2 defeat by Bishop Guertin at Tyngsboro; while STD continued to struggle with a 2-4 loss to Concord in Dover. These results confirm 2nd place (and a first round bye) for the Cardinals of Bishop Guertin, while STD finishes in 4th, behind a re-surging Crimson Tide. The regular season’s last game on Sunday between Lebanon and Oyster River would determine the final two playoff positions. Lebanon claimed the 5th spot with a solid 3-1 win at Campion, keeping Oyster River in 6th.
The official NHIAA Ice Hockey playoff pairings are due out on Monday, but we know that our first playoff game will be a Semifinal at Everett Arena on Tuesday, March 9th. We’ll be the home team in Concord, in just over a week…. but “It starts now.”
